Pearls -
Pearls should be gently wiped down with a soft cloth that does not contain a cleaning agent. A good rule of thumb is that they should be the very last thing you put on. If you’re planning on wearing a perfume or cologne, put your pearls on after application. Never use a sonic cleaner on them.
General Metal & Stone Polishing -
Did you know the more you wear your jewelry, the less tarnished it will look? Every once in a while you will want to give your jewelry a gentle cleaning. When I am freshening up the look of a chain or pendant, I like to use a yellow colored Sunshine brand cloth. The Sunshine cloth will clean all metal bases including copper. If you have a copper piece but prefer it to have that bright new penny look over the dark oxidized look, using a Sunshine cloth will restore it. It will also get rid of verdigris (the green patina that shows up on copper). Avoid using the cloth directly on stones.
If you have purchased a piece that has a liver of sulfur patina on it (usually in the recesses), you will want to polish only the high points of the jewelry so that it does not remove the detailing effects of the oxidation.
I like to use a wet q-tip to gently buff clean stones and their settings.
Caring for Copper -
If you have a copper piece that is causing green skin, you can try coating the back with a clear nail polish.
Keep your skin dry! Do not wear while swimming, and remove before any water contact.
Services I offer (free of course!) -
I’m a left handed gal, so I am more than happy to offer clasp swapping for left handed people. Most jewelry is designed for right handed people. I always swap my own clasps around to make it easier for putting on! Just drop me a note and I will happily fix it for you before it’s sent out.
Local to me? I’m happy to help you with a simple jewelry cleaning!
